Here is a selection of articles that I’ve written for books, newspapers and magazines over the years:
Rescue from Les Droites . This piece, which is a brief retelling of the ordeal that Jamie Fisher and I suffered on Les Droites and my subsequent rescue, was first published in The Mammoth Book of Mountain Disasters (Robinson 2003, ed Hamish MacInnes) Eight Months . This article, published in The Observer in 1999, eight months after my accident, is actually a compressed version of two separate articles which appeared in The Scotsman a month earlier. The article gives some flavour of what I was going through in those first few months. Ben Nevis . I wrote this article for The Scottish Mountaineer in 2000, soon after my ascent of The Ben, an event which captured the imagination of the press worldwide. Marathon Diary . Published in the Sunday Mail as part of their fundraising campaign in support of my attempt to run the London Marathon in April 2002. The Ascent of Mont Blanc . This article was published in the Sunday Mail in 2002, soon after my unsuccessful attempt to climb Western Europe’s highest mountain Mont Blanc. I still haven’t been back to finish the job off… Angola . This was written for the Sunday Mail following on from my visit to Angola with the British Red Cross in 2003. Kilimanjaro . Written after my ascent of Kilimanjaro as part of an all-disabled team in 2004, this article was published in ??. North Sea Yacht Race . Published in Days Like This (Luath Press 2009), a collection of true stories by Scottish People, this is an account of a twenty four hour period during my sailing voyage across the North Sea as part of an all amputee team. Titanium Man . Written after I completed my Titanium Man event in 2007, this article is previously unpublished.
