500 miles
On the 15 July 2007, Jamie and fellow inspirational amputee Olivia Giles launched a brand new charity. Jamie and Olivia, who is also a quadruple amputee, had already raised thousands of pounds between them.500 milesJamie and OliviaThey teamed up to launch 500 miles, an organisation dedicated to supporting amputees by funding initiatives which deliver prosthetic services and related care in areas of desperate need. With the blessing of Charlie and Craig Reid, they borrowed the lyrics of the Proclaimers’ famous song as an aspirational goal for those they aim to help, and to give the charity a Scottish identity.500 miles is now run solely by Olivia who has done an incredible job in getting the charity going and providing prosthetic treatment for countless children and adults in Malawi and Zambia.

British Red Cross
In 2003 Jamie travelled to Angola as an ambassador for the British Red Cross to report on the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross in helping the country’s many thousands of amputees.  The story was covered in the UK by the Sunday Mail newspaper.

Jamie is delighted to be a patron of Ski 2 Freedom.

Ski 2 Freedom is a dynamic charity determined to inspire and help enrich the lives of children and adults, who are affected in some way by life-changing or serious health conditions and disabilities. By making the magic of winter mountain experiences truly inclusive and accessible to everyone Ski 2 Freedom hopes to empower its beneficiaries and enable them to experience the incredible health and well-being benefits of snow sports and the mountains in general.
